Winston Peters wants a drastic reduction in New Zealand immigration – does he have a point?

New Zealand Immigration is at its peak. Massive numbers of individuals are allowed entry in New Zealand under multiple visa categories. Peter Winston is against this large numbers of migrants landing in the country.

Peters is of the view that every year, the number of migrants that are allowed to live and work in New Zealand must be between 7000 to 15000 and not more than that. Also, this number should be highly qualified to be accepted in New Zealand. Moreover, migrants should salute the New Zealand flag when they land the place.

He further added that applicants belonging to regions that ill-treat women and does not consider them their equals must be questioned to get to know their attitude.

People from across the globe are interested in New Zealand immigration. This is due to the vast resources available here. Most Indian and Chinese migrants come here to work and study. New Zealand is getting popular worldwide especially in Asia.

A net gain of 67,400 migrants has been recorded this program year till February. It was expected to reach 70,000 by the end of June. It is a large number for a country to facilitate immigrants.

Such a large number is a cause of worry for the government, says Peters. The current Treasury report also highlights that immigration now, is not that much of worth for the country as it once was.

Skilled workers are invited to fill the labour and skill gaps. But recently, the reports tell that labour skill gap has failed to decline. The probable reason is reported that complementary skills to fill the labour skill gap are not available.

Also, the high New Zealand immigration rate is prone to result in unemployment of the citizens. One open threat that the locals are acting is the high house pricing within the country.

The analysis shows that though the migrants who land here on the skilled visa are highly skilled, yet they work on low-skilled labour only to get the visa. The inappropriate assignment of skills and skilled workers is also a loss for the economy.

Auckland, Tasman region, and Marlborough are highly affected by New Zealand Immigration.
