The Manitoba International Education Stream allows international students who graduated from Manitoba obtain a permanent residency. It is a faster route to Canadian permanent resident status for international graduates who have studied at a university or college in Manitoba.
The province of Manitoba is introducing three distinct new Canadian immigration pathways for students and graduates under the Manitoba International Education Stream of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). These streams bring new perspectives to entrepreneurship, innovation and skilled employment in Manitoba.
The International Graduate and Student Entrepreneur pathways of the Manitoba International Education Stream came into effect on November 1, 2018, while the criteria for the Career Employment pathway is projected to come into effect on November 30, 2018.
The Manitoba International Education Stream announced three pathways:
• Career Employment Pathway
• Graduate Internship Pathway
• Student Entrepreneur Pathway
Career Employment Pathway:
The requirements for Manitoba International Education Stream may seem similar to the current requirements for international graduates in Manitoba applying through the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. However, this stream doesn’t require the candidates to work for six months in Manitoba prior to their application if they have studied in Manitoba and have a job offer in an in-demand occupation.
Manitoba Graduate Internship Pathway:
This stream is a faster nomination pathway for international students graduating in a Master’s or Doctoral (PhD) study program, and who completed an Accelerate or Elevate internship with Mitacs in Manitoba.
International graduates who studied outside Manitoba will not be eligible to apply under this stream.
Manitoba International Student Entrepreneur Pathway:
International students who have graduated in Manitoba now have the opportunity to pursue entrepreneurship in Manitoba rather than employment under the Manitoba International Student Entrepreneur Pathway. To meet the requirements, you need to submit a business plan, and have operated the business as a senior manager in Manitoba for at least six months prior to nomination. You need to have 51% of business equity ownership.
Once your application is approved, a Business Performance Agreement (BPA) needs to be signed before you are issued a letter of support by MPNP to apply for work permit.
Following are the details of the eligibility requirements of each of the above mentioned pathways:
