The Trudeau government is all set to introduce changes to the current immigration system. The Canadian immigration minister, John McCallum announced the same on July 13, 2016.
McCallum visited Peel as part of the government’s consultation process regarding the changes in Canadian immigration system as promised by the Liberal Party in 2015 Elections.
The most important concern of the government is to speed up the process of family immigration. McCallum said this in Brampton and Mississauga while having a meeting with the local stakeholders and members of parliament.
The current processing time for family class immigration visas is approximately 2 years. As per McCallum, it is not acceptable. The government is trying to work out ways to reduce it.
As per the Canadian Immigration Minister, his team is working to devise ways to deal with the current concerns of the community. A new policy will be streamlined soon this fall. The changes will be seen in family class, skilled class, economic category as well as visitor’s visa policies.

Markham Thornhill MP said that they are concerned with streamlining the entry of economic immigrants, refugees and family class all at the same time. Also, they want the Canadian immigration processing simple and quick for international students who want to have permanent residency in Canada.
The immigration minister, John McCallum said that international students seeking permanent residency in Canada are the top concern of the government. The government is trying to find ways to increase their points for permanent residency. This is because these students are young, talented, energetic and fluent in English or French.

The improvement of visitor visa processing policies is also under consideration. The problem has been observed for several places. The government is trying to resolve the matter as soon as possible to make it easier for people who want to visit Canada as a visitor or to attend a wedding or a funeral.
We are keen to provide a quicker entry system soon, said McCallum.
He further added, the Trudeau government has successfully supported 25,000 Syrian refugees recently on humanitarian grounds. That’s a great achievement.
