On October 11, 2016, the government of New Zealand officially announced that they have increased the points for automatic selection of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from 140 to 160. This update has been applied to the Skilled Migrant Category.
Note: The minimum points requirement to apply for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) is still 100. Immigration New Zealand has decided to keep the minimum requirements unchanged.
Since the latest update, Immigration Experts has been receiving a lot of inquiries regarding how it affect those who are about to apply. Will it make hard to obtain residency as a skilled migrant? Keep reading this post to get the answer to all of your questions.
Background of this change
The immigration department has received nearly one hundred thousand residency applications in last two years. The government wants to reduce the number of applications to 80 thousand in next two years. This is the major reason why they have increased the number of points for automatic selection.
In the past year, 57 percent of the total resident visas were issued in the skilled migrant category.
