Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), recently unveiled an important update regarding visa regulations. To promote global connectivity and facilitate travel, the Canadian government has taken the initiative to expand the list of eligible nations for visa-free access to Canada. This significant development, encompassing the addition of 13 new countries, was officially announced by Minister Fraser.
The IRCC, acknowledging the need for inclusivity and fostering stronger international ties, has taken proactive measures to include these 13 nations in the visa-free travel program. This strategic decision aims to streamline travel procedures and enhance the accessibility of Canada for visitors hailing from a broader range of countries.
New Countries Who Can Travel Visa – Free to Canada
Canada has recently expanded its list of eligible countries for visa-free travel, opening its doors to an array of new nations. As of today, citizens from Panama, as well as the Caribbean island states of Antigua and Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Argentina, Morocco, Seychelles, Thailand, and the Philippines, can now enjoy the privilege of visiting Canada without the need for a visa.
The Canadian government has put in place a new regulation to simplify the travel procedure. When making travel plans to Canada, anyone from that country who has recently held a Canadian visa or who currently hold a valid non-immigrant visa from the United States is eligible to apply for an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) rather than a visa. The goal of this change is to simplify the application process while retaining the safety and reliability of Canada’s immigration system.

Following the media availability session, Minister Sean Fraser proceeded to engage in a roundtable discussion with local stakeholders and community members at the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba (PCCM). This interactive dialogue aimed to gather valuable insights and perspectives from the participants.

What Would be the Next Announcement by IRCC
At present, there has been no official confirmation or announcement from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or the immigration department regarding the nature of the expected announcement.
While the immigration minister’s scheduled roundtable discussion with community members at the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba (PCCM) might suggest the possibility of positive news for the Filipino community, it is important to note that such speculation is solely based on expectations and not verified information. Until there is an official statement from the IRCC or immigration department, it is advisable to await confirmed details regarding any potential developments.
