Labor commits to manufacturing jobs boost as Malcolm Turnbull sells defence

`Bill Shorten boosts manufacturing jobs by announcing $59 million package to help workers affected by closure of car industry. These workers also include the skilled workers who moved to Australia under skilled Australian immigration.

The Labor party in Australia announced this package on the election trail. PM Turnbull on the other hand went to Western Australia and announced a defence industry plan in reply to Bill Shorten’s announcement.

Shorten said that this announcement on behalf of Labor Party is aimed for workers affected in manufacturing job sector. Among others, Geelong and northern Adelaide are also included in the regions claimed for this package.

Opposition Industry Spokesman Kim Carr visited these regions with Bill Shorten. They said that these regions are facing the problems of unemployment and social dislocation. This is due to a wrong decision by the Liberal Party. The car industry is closing down and leaving Australia as a consequence.

The opposition parties aim to encourage skilled Australian immigration so that new business and investment opportunities can flourish in the manufacturing sector. The proposed pathway will also provide employment to the workers who have lost their jobs.

Manufacturing jobs

Shorten claimed that the current government has no advanced plans for manufacturing.

The closure of motor vehicle production industry will result in unemployment of 200,000 people associated with it between now and 2017.

The announced package of $59 million consists of $10.5 million for existing manufacturing industries and $$8.1 million for new investments.

Christopher Pyne, the Australian Automobiles Manufacturing Industry Minister, is looking forward to this package. He said the government had already invested $200 million on programs regarding automobile industry. Shorten’s plan is good but it will fit rather late since he is settling the$100 billion taxes first.

Pyne further added that the government’s defence plan is for the welfare of people working in an automobile industry. It will give them stable ways to stay in this business and survive longer.

Mathias Cormann, the Finance Minister also noted in support of the government that we are trying to support the economic transition in the country, particularly in the manufacturing business. In fact, Turnbull has a lot more to say regarding the benefits of this new defence industry plan. It will offer great benefits to Western Australia.

The Turnbull government also has a plan for construction of navy frigates and offshore patrol vessels starting from 2018 and expanding till 2020.

This means that there is a lot of scope for skilled workers to apply for immigration to Australia.
