Complete guide to Canada's Express Entry immigration system for Pakistani nationals — CRS points, eligible programs, 2025–2026 updates, settlement funds, application fees and step-by-step process.
Canada's Express Entry system is one of the world's most efficient and transparent immigration selection systems — and one of the fastest pathways to Canadian permanent residency for Pakistani skilled workers.
Express Entry is Canada's innovative online immigration management system — similar in design to systems implemented in Australia and New Zealand. It manages applications from skilled workers who are interested in Canadian immigration and have submitted an Expression of Interest for permanent residence in Canada.
Express Entry is not a standalone immigration program. It is a supporting selection system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to efficiently select the most eligible candidates from a pool of applicants. The system manages three Federal Economic Immigration Programs and works in coordination with Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
Candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) — a points-based scoring model. The highest-scoring candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence through regular Express Entry draws. After receiving an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit a complete application, which is processed in approximately 6 months.
Canada has introduced significant updates to its Express Entry system in 2025–2026 — including higher immigration targets, new draw categories and removal of job offer bonus points.
Important: Canada has made significant changes to Express Entry in 2025–2026. Pakistani applicants must understand these updates before submitting their profiles. Here is a full breakdown of what has changed:
Canada has increased its economic immigration targets significantly. The number of immigrants admitted under economic programs has risen from 110,770 in 2024 to 124,590 in 2025. With fewer admissions through provincial programs, more skilled workers are now being selected directly via Express Entry.
Starting in spring 2025, valid job offers will no longer give extra CRS points. Previously, a valid job offer could add 50–200 CRS points to a candidate's profile. Candidates must now focus on other factors — language skills, education, age and Canadian work experience — to improve their scores.
The old Federal High-Skilled category has been split into two new groups. "In-Canada Focus" — for candidates already living in Canada, and "Federal Economic Priorities" — for candidates with skills in high-demand areas like healthcare, trades and French language proficiency.
In 2025–2026, Express Entry draws will specifically target critical sectors including Healthcare occupations, Skilled Trades and French language proficiency. Candidates in these fields have a significantly higher chance of receiving an ITA — even with lower overall CRS scores.
Provincial Nominee Programs remain deeply integrated with Express Entry. A provincial nomination still adds 600 CRS points — virtually guaranteeing an ITA in the next draw. Check our full PNP guide to identify the best province for your profile.
French language proficiency has become a major advantage in Express Entry 2025–2026. Candidates who speak French — even at a basic level — are eligible for category-based draws and receive additional CRS points, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an ITA.
Express Entry serves as a universal platform for three Federal Economic Immigration Programs. To enter the Express Entry pool, you must be eligible for at least one of these programs:
The most popular Express Entry stream for Pakistani applicants. Designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.
Designed for temporary workers and international graduates already in Canada. Requires Canadian work experience — making it ideal for those on post-study or post-graduation work permits.
Designed for skilled tradespeople and technical workers in qualifying occupations. Canada has a critical shortage of skilled trades workers — making this an increasingly important Express Entry stream in 2025.
Not sure which program fits you? Use our Canada CRS Points Calculator to check your score. Our consultants will then identify which of the three programs best matches your profile and how to maximise your CRS score.
Verify whether you are eligible for one of the three Federal Economic Immigration Programs — Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or Federal Skilled Trades (FST). Eligibility is based on your work experience, education, age and language scores. Use our Canada CRS Calculator for an instant assessment.
Take an approved English language test — IELTS General Training or CELPIP are the most common. A higher IELTS score (CLB 9+) can significantly boost your CRS score. French language proficiency (TEF Canada or TCF Canada) also adds valuable bonus points under the 2025 updates.
If you completed your education outside Canada, you need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a designated organisation like WES (World Education Services). An ECA verifies that your Pakistani degree is equivalent to a Canadian credential — this is mandatory for the FSW program and earns CRS points.
Create your Express Entry profile through the IRCC online portal. Enter your personal data, education credentials, language scores, work experience and other relevant information. After submitting, you will enter the Express Entry pool and receive a CRS score.
While waiting in the Express Entry pool, actively work on improving your CRS score. Key strategies include: improving your IELTS score, obtaining a provincial nomination (+600 CRS), getting a sibling in Canada (+15 CRS), improving education credentials, or gaining additional work experience. Candidates remain in the pool for up to 12 months.
IRCC conducts regular Express Entry draws — selecting the highest-ranking candidates and issuing Invitations to Apply (ITA). In 2025–2026, draws include both all-program draws and category-based draws (healthcare, trades, French speakers). Monitor the IRCC Express Entry rounds page for the latest draw results.
After receiving your ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for Canadian permanent residence including all required documents, police certificates, medical examinations and biometrics. Our consultants manage this entire process to ensure a complete, error-free submission.
After submitting your complete application, processing takes approximately 6 months. Upon approval, you receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and Canadian Permanent Resident Visa — allowing you and your family to land in Canada as permanent residents.
Candidates in the Express Entry pool receive a CRS score out of 1,200 points. The highest-ranking candidates receive ITAs. Here is a summary of how CRS points are awarded:
| Factor | Max Points (Single) | Max Points (With Spouse) |
|---|---|---|
| Age | 110 | 100 |
| Education Level | 150 | 140 |

Here are the official Canadian government application fees for Express Entry permanent residence applications (in Canadian Dollars):
| Applicant | Fee (CAD) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Applicant | $1,525 | Includes processing fee + Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) |
| Spouse / Common-Law Partner | $1,525 | Same fee applies for accompanying spouse |
| Dependent Child | $260 | Per dependent child under 22 years old |
Additional Costs: The fees above cover government processing only. Additional costs include: IELTS test fee (~PKR 45,000), ECA / WES assessment (~CAD 300), medical examination (~PKR 25,000–40,000), police clearance, and biometrics fees. Plan for a total budget of CAD 3,000–5,000 for a family of three.
You must prove you have enough money to support yourself and your family when you arrive in Canada. These funds are required even if your spouse, partner or children are Canadian citizens or permanent residents — and even if they are not moving to Canada with you.
Here are the latest required settlement fund amounts in Canadian Dollars (CAD):
| Family Size | Required Funds (CAD) | Approx. PKR |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Person | $14,690 | ~PKR 57–60 lakh |
| 2 People | $18,288 | ~PKR 71–75 lakh |

| 7 People | $38,875 | ~PKR 1.49–1.56 crore |
| Each Additional Person | +$3,958 | ~PKR 15–16 lakh per person |
Note: Settlement funds are not required if you are currently authorised to work in Canada AND have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. PKR amounts are approximate and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Always confirm current rates with official IRCC guidance →
Provinces and territories can select eligible candidates directly from the Express Entry pool through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) — helping them meet local labour market needs. This is called an Enhanced Nomination.
