The following information provides the most recent processing times published by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) as of June 6, 2023. Additionally, a comparison to the processing times of the previous week is included.
It is important to read and understand this information thoroughly to grasp the meaning of these processing timeframes.
In early 2022, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) made improvements to its processing tool. The purpose was to provide more practical and accurate information about the typical duration it takes to process applications, rather than simply stating service standards.
Before this upgrade, the tool only displayed IRCC service standards, representing the desired timeframe for expedited application processing. These service standards were rarely updated.
Nowadays, most citizenship and permanent residency services offer processing timelines for 80% of applications. These timelines are refreshed weekly, using data from the previous six months. This approach ensures that the provided information is more precise, taking into consideration the number of applications being processed and any changes in IRCC’s capacity to handle them.
Every week, the processing timeframes for temporary residence applications are reviewed and updated. This is done by analyzing statistics from the past 8 or 16 weeks, depending on the specific case.
The purpose of these updated processing timetables is to give individuals who are considering immigrating to Canada or applying for a visa an estimation of the time it takes to decide on their application.
However, it is important to note that these timeframes do not guarantee that your application will be processed within the same duration. Since the processing times are based on the experiences of 80% of applicants, the processing time for your particular application may be either longer or shorter than stated.
Processing Time for Permanent Resident and Citizenship
Furthermore, the IRCC is currently sending Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) letters or emails to citizenship applicants who submitted their applications either on paper or online starting from April 14, 2023.
Note: Please note that there may be a delay in processing citizenship certificate requests from nations other than the United States and Canada.
