Express Entry Draw: Canada Invited 471 Candidates for PR on January 7, 2025

January 8, 2025BY Sheraz

With its first Express Entry draw, Canada began 2025 by only considering candidates who had been nominated by its provinces.

471 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were sent out in this draw on January 7, 2025, enabling these applicants to submit applications for PR. This is the first wave of ITAs that have been sent out this year.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff score for the draw was 66 points higher than the last Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-specific draw, which required a score of at least 793.

Strategies to Enhance Your CRS Score for Future Draws

If your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score wasn’t enough to meet the cutoff in the latest draw, don’t lose hope! There are several ways to improve your score and increase your chances in upcoming draws.

1. Improve Your Language Test Results

Language tests like IELTS, CELPIP (English), or TEF and TCF (French) are key components of your CRS score.

  • Aim to boost your scores in these tests, as higher language proficiency can significantly enhance your ranking.
  • If you’re bilingual, improving your French skills can earn you extra points, making it a valuable strategy to explore.

2. Pursue Higher Education

Earning an additional qualification, such as a master’s degree or a postgraduate certificate, can help you gain more CRS points.

  • Once you’ve completed a program, update your credentials in your Express Entry profile to reflect the changes.

3. Build Canadian Work Experience

Gaining more months or years of work experience in Canada can significantly improve your CRS score.

  • Ensure your work experience is well-documented and meets eligibility requirements.

4. Apply for a Provincial Nomination

A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination can add an incredible 600 points to your CRS score, almost guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

  • Look for provincial programs that align with your skills and experience to maximize this opportunity.

5. Secure a Job Offer

Having a valid job offer from a Canadian employer can increase your CRS score by up to 200 points, depending on the position.

  • Focus on roles supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to maximize your chances.

6. Utilize Spousal Contributions

If you have a spouse or partner:

  • Include their language test scores, educational qualifications, and Canadian work experience in your profile. These factors can provide extra points to boost your CRS score.

7. Regularly Update Your Profile

Express Entry profiles are valid for one year, but regular updates are crucial.

  • Include any new qualifications, work experience, or language test scores to ensure you’re capturing all possible points.

Why Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Applicants Should Stay Optimistic

Canada is committed to pathways for transitioning temporary residents to permanent residents. Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates remain a significant focus of immigration strategies by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

  • Stay proactive and work on improving your CRS score to seize future opportunities.
  • Whether through enhanced language skills, educational achievements, or a PNP nomination, there are many ways to strengthen your profile and secure an ITA.

As the CRS score cutoffs remain competitive, the number of opportunities for CEC applicants to achieve permanent residency continues to grow.

Take Action Today

Stay informed about future draws, keep your profile updated, and focus on improving your CRS score. By following these strategies, you’ll be better prepared to secure an ITA and make your dream of immigrating to Canada a reality!
