The 2024 intake for the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program is set to commence on May 21, 2024.
IRCC plans to send out invitations to 35,700 prospective sponsors, aiming to receive as many as 20,500 fully completed applications.
This year, there will be an increase of 5,500 invitations compared to the 2023 intake for the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program.
Starting May 21st, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will distribute these invitations for about two weeks.
The opportunity to submit new interest-to-sponsor forms will not be available this year. Instead, IRCC will continue to select potential sponsors at random from the existing pool of interest-to-sponsor forms that were collected back in 2020.
This method has been consistently applied by IRCC for the program’s intakes in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and it will be used again in 2024.
Sponsors who filled out an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 but did not get an invitation in 2021, 2022, or 2023 should keep an eye on the email address they used in 2020.
Individuals invited to apply for the 2023 intake are required to submit their applications electronically via the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.

These amounts reflect the financial capability required to support the family members you plan to sponsor under the PGP 2024.
The Canada Super Visa Remains an Excellent Alternative
For those unable to participate in the sponsorship program but wishing to reunite with their parents and grandparents in Canada, applying for a super visa is a viable option. This visa is valid for ten years and allows for multiple entries into the country.
Holders of a super visa can reside in Canada for up to five years continuously without the need to exit the country. Furthermore, after the initial five-year period, they have the opportunity to request an extension for an additional two years.
This option facilitates extended stays and longer reunions for parents and grandparents with their family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
