Canada witnessed a significant surge in its immigration activities during August 2023, with a remarkable increase in the number of invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency (PR). A total of 24,720 ITAs were issued across 36 new rounds of invitations, marking an impressive 55% increase when compared to the previous month of July 2023.
August 2023 showcased a diverse array of immigration programs contributing to this surge in PR invitations. The province of Ontario took the lead by issuing the highest number of ITAs, closely followed by the Express Entry draws and provincial nominee programs of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Prince Edward Island.
Let’s delve into the specific details of these new permanent residency invitations for August 2023:
Ontario PNP Draws Summary
The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP) played a pivotal role in Canada’s immigration activities by sending out a staggering 9,906 invitations. These invitations were distributed through three Express Entry draws and nine Expression of Interest draws.
For clarity, interested candidates must create a profile with OINP to be considered for Expression of Interest draws. However, OINP Express Entry draws directly invite profiles from the Express Entry pool, aligning with Ontario’s labor market needs.
Out of the total invitations, 5,679 went to Express Entry profiles, granting them provincial nominations and a significant boost of 600 additional points.
Express Entry Draw Summary
In August 2023, the Express Entry system conducted four new rounds of invitations, extending a total of 8,600 PR invitations. While this number slightly decreased compared to the previous month, it was a prosperous period for profiles across various Express Entry programs.
The most notable draw within the Express Entry system was a program-unspecified draw, which issued 6,300 ITAs with CRS cutoff scores ranging from 496 to 517. Additionally, a targeted draw for 10 trade occupations featured the lowest CRS cutoff score at 388. A smaller Francophile draw invited 800 profiles with a CRS cutoff score of 435.
Manitoba PNP Draws Summary
Manitoba remained an active contributor to Canada’s PR invitations, issuing a total of 1,548 ITAs in August 2023. A noteworthy highlight was a region-specific draw for Skilled Workers in Manitoba outside the Winnipeg Area, which set the cutoff score at 600.
Saskatchewan PNP Summary
The Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Program (SINP) introduced a unique approach to Canadian immigration by conducting country-targeted PNP draws, a first in Canada’s history. In total, 1,384 invitations were extended to applicants from eight countries with a minimal Expression of Interest (EOI) score requirement of 60.
These countries included India, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, and Ukraine.
British Columbia PNP Draws Summary
British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) issued 861 new invitations for PR, showcasing an increase compared to the previous month. BC PNP continued its alternating strategy between general and targeted PNP rounds, with Early Childhood Educators and healthcare occupation profiles consistently receiving invitations at low cutoff scores.
Quebec Arrima Draws Summary
Quebec conducted a single Arrima draw in August 2023, inviting 1,384 profiles for PR. This draw focused on Arrima profiles with oral French proficiency of level 7 or higher and a score of 591 or higher according to the Quebec score calculator.
Alberta Express Entry Draws Summary
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted seven Express Entry draws, inviting a total of 815 profiles in August 2023. These invitations allowed candidates to claim provincial nominations, providing an opportunity to enhance their CRS score by 600 points.
Prince Edward Island PNP Draws Summary
Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada’s smallest province, invited a total of 222 candidates in three provincial nominee program draws. These draws targeted individuals working in various sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, food processing, construction, and agriculture.
In 2023, PEI PNP issued a total of 1,861 ITAs for PR across all categories.
Final Words
ITAs for permanent residency in Canada increased significantly in August 2023, with governments such as Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan pursuing creative measures to recruit skilled immigrants. The Express Entry system has remained central to the immigration scene, and the future offers more diversified draws and possibilities for potential immigrants.
