Australian Government Increased Nomination Allocations for All States and Territories 2024-2025

July 18, 2024BY Sheraz

The Australian Government has published the state nomination allocations for the 2024-25 program year. These allocations are assigned to each state and territory for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

Here is a detailed allocation breakdown for each state and territory in Australia:

Australia Announced Nomination Allocations for All States and Territories 2024-25

State and Territory Nomination Allocations:

The Migration Program in Australia permits states and territories to nominate qualified candidates for specific visa categories. These categories include:

  1. Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190): This is a permanent visa for skilled workers who receive a nomination from an Australian state or territory government. It grants visa holders the right to live and work in Australia as permanent residents.
  2. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491): This provisional visa is for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory government or sponsored by an eligible family member residing in a designated regional area. It allows visa holders to live, work, and study in these designated regional areas for up to five years and offers a pathway to permanent residency.

Each state and territory in Australia has its own criteria for evaluating and nominating eligible visa applicants. Consequently, the requirements and eligibility criteria can differ depending on the jurisdiction.

ACT Nomination Allocations for 2024-25

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government can address local skills shortages and labor market needs through a specific part of the Australian Migration Program called the state/territory nominated stream. This allows the ACT to nominate individuals for visas based on the region’s needs.

The Australian Government assigns several nomination places to the ACT each year. For the 2024-25 financial year, the ACT has been allocated 1,800 nomination places. These allocations are split into two distinct categories:

  1. ACT Subclass 190 nomination: This category has 1,000 places. It is intended for individuals who wish to live and work permanently in the ACT.
  2. ACT Subclass 491 nomination: This category has 800 places. It is for individuals who want to live and work in the ACT on a provisional basis before applying for permanent residency.

Nomination Allocations for ACT 2023-24

For the 2023-24 financial year, the Australian Government has allocated 1,200 nomination places to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

When the ACT nominates an individual, it triggers an invitation for that person to apply for a visa from the Department of Home Affairs. However, being nominated by the ACT does not guarantee a successful visa application. The individual must still meet all the visa criteria established by the Department of Home Affairs.
