Australia is about to introduce a tough citizenship test. The aim behind this move is to ensure that extremists don’t enter in Australia. The new test is expected to be focused on the candidate’s education and employment history. Also, there will be questions about the spouse and children’s education.
Previously, the test included questions regarding the basic duties of an Australian citizen, Australia’s elections, parliament and political structure. Now, Australia has decided to make the test more specific than before. The structure of test will be designed in a way that it will examine the whether applicants have information regarding Australian lifestyle.
Currently, there is a 20 multiple-choice-question citizenship test, which doesn’t give the exact idea about candidates profile. It’s the highest priority for almost every nation to avoid extremists coming into their country. Similarly, Australia has decided to stop extremists through a tough and more accurate citizenship test.
What are the Possible Questions?
According to The Daily Telegraph, few of the possible citizenships questions are:
- Do your children go to school?
- Do your spouse attend English classes?
- Do you work? When have you started working?
In the Parliament house in Canberra, a high-level meeting took place to look into visa reforms, according to media sources.
There are some serious concerns regarding radicalisation and extremism in Australia.
During the first week of January, Australian police arrested Neil Prakash who is believed to be an ISIS recruiter. Neil Prakash is commonly known as Abu Khaled al-Cambodi. Prakash is believed to be a high-level person in ISIS. In 2013, he moved to Syria to fight along with ISIS.
A school boy age 15 years old killed a police outside police headquarters last years. During 2014, an Iranian migrant made hostages in Lindt Cafe in Sydney CBD before he was shot dead by police.
At the present, you need a clean criminal record to be granted Australian citizenship. Haward government put this test in place back in 2007. The major purpose of this test was to ensure the language abilities of applicants.
Now, it seems like the need to time to improve the citizenship and make it more accurate.
