Tasmania Skilled Occupations List 2024-25

Tasmania created an occupation list for overseas skilled workers to fulfill the skill shortage. These occupation profiles have been developed through discussions with industry and employers in Tasmania. They guide Migration Tasmania in selecting skilled overseas candidates for the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program, especially those without a job offer from a Tasmanian company.

Purpose of Tasmania Occupation List

The profiles help identify international candidates with the skills and experience that match Tasmania’s job market needs. Migration Tasmania uses the Australian Government’s SkillSelect database to find suitable candidates. Those who meet the criteria may be invited to apply for a subclass 491 or 190 visa or to connect with Tasmanian employers seeking those skills.

Important Note: Due to the large number of Expressions of Interest registered in SkillSelect, Migration Tasmania cannot guarantee that all candidates who meet these profiles will receive an invitation to apply for nomination.

Business, Accounting, and Finance Occupations

Skills and Experience Requirements

Employers in Tasmania are looking for professionals with the following skills and experiences:

• Business Analysts: 3 to 5 years of experience
• Finance Analysts: 3 to 5 years of experience
• Auditors: 3 to 5 years of experience with relevant professional qualifications
• Financial Accountants: 3 to 5 years of experience with relevant professional qualifications

Other Desired Attributes

• High proficiency in English
• Experience in client interactions
• Skills in report writing and analysis
• Professional certification
• Experience in CPA, CA, or ACCA-accredited firms is highly valued
• Experience with renowned multinational companies such as Google, Unilever, and Microsoft is highly regarded

Information Technology and Computing / Graphic Design and Content Creation Occupations

Skills and Experience Requirements

General Requirements: Candidates should meet at least one of the following criteria:

1. All IT Professionals:

• 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience
• Experience with well-known international companies (e.g., Google, Facebook, YouTube)
• Human Resources experience is an added advantage

Specific Roles in IT Professionals:

Software Engineers, Software and Applications Programmers: 2 to 5 years of experience, plus:

• Experience in product-oriented companies
• Game development experience
• Expertise in CPU/GPU optimization
• Proficiency in C or C++ programming (especially low-level coding)
• Specialization in graphics engineering
• Focus on Research & Development
• Interface engineering experience
• iOS development skills (Objective-C and Swift)

Cybersecurity Analysts: 2 to 5 years of relevant experience is highly valued

Multimedia Designers / Graphic Designers: Minimum 5 years of experience in motion design and animation

Illustrators: Experience in digital art and proficiency with Procreate

2. Mid to Senior Level IT Professionals: Mid to senior-level experience is highly valued and includes:

• Over 5 years of professional experience
• Experience in developing products tailored to organizational needs as well as personal projects
• Expertise in managing complex services, including cybersecurity
• Innovative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Experience working with renowned international companies (e.g., Google, Facebook, YouTube)

Engineering and Infrastructure Occupations

Skills and Experience Requirements

Candidates for roles in engineering and infrastructure should possess the following:

General Requirements:

• 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience
• High demand for experience in estimation
• Valued experience in wind and renewable energy production
• Employment with well-known multinational companies (e.g., Siemens, BAE, Honeywell, Mitsubishi, Bouygues, ACS, Vinci, Power China, Hitachi, AECOM, Alstom, Downer EDI, Thales, GHD) is well-regarded

Specific Roles:

• Civil, Geotechnical, and Structural Engineers: Experience with dam and hydraulics projects
• Electrical Engineers: Expertise in power systems, primary systems, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems
• Project Delivery and Project Management Officers: Experience with water, sewerage, civil, or mechanical engineering projects
• Architectural Draftspersons / Civil Engineering Draftspersons: Engineering skills and experience with major projects
• Mechanical Engineers: Experience in heavy industries such as mining, hydropower, oil, and gas

Health and Allied Health Occupations

Skills and Experience Requirements

Physiotherapists, Speech Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists:

• High proficiency in English
• Training or experience in countries with “mutual recognition” agreements (UK, Canada, South Africa, USA, NZ, HK) is highly regarded
• Full AHPRA registration is desirable, or:
• • Current Stage 1 skills assessment from the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia with 2 years post-qualification work experience
  • Australian Physiotherapy Council Limited Certificate of Substantial Equivalence or Final Certificate with 3 years post-qualification work experience
• Speech Pathologists with Certified Practicing Membership from Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
• Experience in pediatrics is highly valued

Nurses:

• Australian work experience or training in mutually recognized countries (UK, Canada, South Africa, USA, NZ, HK) is preferred

General Practitioners:

• Full AHPRA registration is desirable
• High proficiency in English
• Australian qualifications or experience is highly valued

Hospitality and Tourism / Accommodation Occupations

Skills and Experience Requirements

Candidates for roles in hospitality and tourism should meet the following criteria:

• Minimum of three years post-qualification experience
• Experience working in large, well-known restaurants or international hotels is highly valued

Building and Construction Occupations

Skills and Experience Requirements

Candidates for roles in building and construction should meet the following criteria:

• A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience
• High proficiency in English (Proficient and above) is highly valued

Transport and Logistics Occupations
