Canada Express Entry: Third Draw of February 2026 Issued 279 ITAs (PNP)

February 17, 2026BY Junaid Zaroon

Canada has conducted the third Express Entry draw of February 2026, issuing 279 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. This round was specifically for candidates who already hold a provincial nomination, giving them a major advantage in the Express Entry system.

The draw was conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and targeted profiles aligned with the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). As expected, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff remained high due to the limited number of invitations issued.

Summary of Express Entry Draw – February 16, 2026

This draw shows that provincial nominations continue to be one of the most powerful pathways to permanent residence in Canada, especially when CRS scores for general draws remain competitive.

Why Was the CRS Cutoff Higher This Time?

The CRS cutoff of 789 is noticeably higher than earlier PNP rounds this month. The primary reason is the smaller number of ITAs issued compared to previous draws. Fewer invitations naturally push the CRS requirement upward.

For comparison, earlier PNP draws in February invited more candidates, resulting in slightly lower CRS cutoffs. This fluctuation is normal and depends on the number of candidates IRCC decides to invite in each round.

So far in February 2026, IRCC has issued over 9,000 ITAs, and candidates are still waiting for a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw. If a CEC round is announced, CRS scores may increase further due to high competition in the pool.

Expert Tips to Secure a Provincial Nomination in 2026

Securing a PNP nomination adds 600 CRS points, almost guaranteeing an ITA. Here are the most effective strategies to improve your chances:

1️⃣ Apply to Multiple Provinces

Do not limit yourself to just one province. Each province has different eligibility criteria and streams. Applying to multiple provinces where you qualify increases your selection chances.

2️⃣ Show Interest in Provinces in Your Express Entry Profile

Some provinces search the Express Entry pool directly. If you do not indicate interest, you may miss out on receiving a Notification of Interest (NOI).

3️⃣ Target Provinces Where Your Occupation Is in Demand

Every province publishes in-demand occupation lists. Align your application with provinces that need your profession.

4️⃣ Gain Canadian Experience in a Province

Candidates with work or study experience in a province often receive priority under provincial streams.

5️⃣ Improve Language Test Scores

Many provincial programs require higher language benchmarks than Express Entry minimums. Retaking IELTS or CELPIP to improve your scores can unlock more PNP options.

6️⃣ Demonstrate Strong Settlement Intent

Provinces want applicants who genuinely plan to live and work there. Show ties such as employment prospects, community research, or previous visits.

7️⃣ Track PNP Openings Closely

Some PNP streams open for a few hours only. Missing the window can mean waiting months for another opportunity.

8️⃣ Keep Documents Ready

Incomplete documentation leads to refusals. Prepare your ECAs, reference letters, proof of funds, and language results in advance.

What This Draw Means for Candidates

This draw highlights that PNP remains one of the strongest pathways to Canadian permanent residence. Even when CRS cutoffs are high, a provincial nomination can move your profile to the top of the pool.

Candidates waiting for a CEC draw should keep their profiles updated and use this time to strengthen CRS scores through language improvement, work experience, or provincial pathways.
