Millions of students dream to go abroad through a student visa to pursue higher studies. However, only a few of them get lucky enough to secure admission and get a student visa.
While in our own country, we take a number of things for granted, moving to another country comes with its own set of challenges.
Every year, a number of Pakistani students apply for the student visa and get successful. Since they apply for a vast range of regions, their problems are diverse.
Common problems they face include varying weather, culture, food, religion and people. Though an outlook of a foreign country seems flawless, there are a few underlying problems that the students should think about beforehand.
Major issues that Pakistani students face overseas are:
- Fit-in Issues
Students from Pakistan are comparatively smaller in number; this makes them feel like a total stranger in a new country. It takes them some time to adjust in the new land.
- Language Obstacle
Though the students clear the IELTS passing bands, speaking and understanding a language are two different things. Language barrier is another problem students have to face when studying abroad.
- Currency Difference
There’s a huge contrast between Pakistani and foreign currencies. The students face problems while doing currency conversions at every step.
- Need to be Self-Reliant
Moving from a culture where you have a great family to support, an awesome circle of friends always at your side and other alliances to a totally new land has its own set of challenges.
Students have to deal with their problems on their own. There is no social or emotional support. You need to be self-reliant.
- The Varying Culture
Pakistani students face cultural issues when studying abroad. The cultural and moral values there are entirely different from Pakistan.
- Food Concerns
Being specific about ‘halal’ food is another problem that Pakistani students face. Though halal food products are available but finding the right restaurant is the real problem.
- Scholastic and Financial Pressure
Pakistanis who go abroad through a student visa mostly belong to middle-class families.
On one hand they have to get good grades while on the other hand, they have to take some part time jobs to keep up with the expenses. This builds a lot of pressure on them.
Keeping a balance between the two needs is a great struggle for them.
These were some common issues faced by our students. Feel free to share your personal experiences in the comment section. It would be a great help for the current students going abroad through a student visa.
