Guidelines for Preparation of the Summary of Farm Business Intent

Here are the criteria you need to meet in order to make an investment in Province of Manitoba:

  • The applicant requires living on the farm in rural Manitoba.
  • You are not allowed to lease your farmland to others.
  • The farm land should be in an active primary agricultural production. It shouldn’t be out of production.
  • Being the farm owner, you can’t higher a farm manager or use any third party service to run the farm. You need to operate it yourself.
  • You shouldn’t purchase the farm for only land value appreciation purposes.

Apart from the above requirements, Farm Business Investments requires to meet the following additional requirements.

Investment

  1. The Nominee requires to make a personal investment of at least $150,000 in tangible assets in Manitoba.
  2. If the nominee wants to invest in an existing farm, he needs to control at 33.33 percent share of the farm or his investment should be equal to one million dollars. Also, there would be no redemption option in terms of the investment.
  3. The money you spend on your personal items such as a vehicle or a residence located away from the farm shall not be counted as business investment.
  4. Investments into a farm business operated primarily for the purposes of deriving passive investment income are not eligible.

Business Activities

  1. A farm business entity should have ongoing and recurring business activities in Manitoba.
  2. The Nominee is required to actively participate in the management of the farm business on an ongoing basis from within Manitoba.
  3. The farm business must be legal and viable in Manitoba’s economic environment, and the applicant should have the necessary resources and skills to operate such a farm business.
  4. The PNP-B requires the Nominee to conduct value-added farm business activities in Manitoba. Purely speculative activities do not qualify under the PNP-B.
