Express Entry Draw: Canada Invited 32,000 Candidates for PR on September 19, 2023

September 20, 2023BY Sheraz

Canada’s immigration agency, IRCC, has recently issued 3,200 invitations to apply (ITAs) in a new Express Entry draw. This draw included candidates from various immigration programs. Let’s break down the key details of this draw:

In this draw, there was no specific immigration program mentioned. This means that candidates from all Express Entry programs were eligible to receive invitations.

A total of 3,200 invitations were issued. This is the number of candidates who have been invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the lowest-ranked candidate who received an invitation was 531. This score is significant because it shows the minimum CRS score required to be eligible for this draw.

The draw took place on September 19, 2023, at 15:04:11 UTC. This is the exact moment when the invitations were sent out.

What is the Tie-Breaking Rule?

In case multiple candidates had the same CRS score, the tie-breaking rule was applied. The date and time for this rule in this draw were September 12, 2023, at 12:16:31 UTC. This means that candidates with the same CRS score, whose profiles were submitted before this date and time, were prioritized.

CRS Threshold in 2023

The CRS score saw a notable increase of 35 points, going from 496 to 531 in this draw. This increase can be attributed to the fact that no Express Entry draws have taken place since August 15, 2023. As a result, the competition became more intense, leading to a higher minimum CRS score required for an invitation.

CRS Threshold in 2023

Throughout the year 2023, IRCC has invited a total of 80,948 profiles in 26 Express Entry draws. The CRS threshold, which is the minimum CRS score required for an invitation, has varied throughout the year. It started as low as 375 in the Francophile draw and went up to 463 for 35 Healthcare occupations, 486 for 24 STEM occupations, and finally reached 531 in the most recent draw on September 19, 2023, where no specific program was specified. These fluctuations in CRS scores reflect the changing demands and priorities of Canada’s immigration system.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry provides a universal platform for, Federal and Provincial governments. Moreover, it facilitates employers to choose prospective candidates out of the Express Entry pool. This Pool consists of such candidates, who stand eligible for any one of the mentioned below “Federal Economic Immigration Programs”.

  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • The Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

The candidates may receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for immigration to Canada, once they are selected. However, such candidates must hurry to complete their application form and submit it along with the required documents. The time for applying is 60 days and it takes six months (from the date of receiving the application to complete the process.

In a recent development, the IRCC introduced a fresh set of selection criteria on May 31st, placing a stronger emphasis on distinct professional and demographic attributes of candidates, going beyond their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. As a result, six new categories have emerged for Express Entry candidates:

  1. Healthcare
  2. STEM Professions (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
  3. Trades
  4. Transport
  5. Agriculture and Agri-Food
  6. French-Language Proficiency
