The number of people Ontario can nominate for immigration through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has gone up by 5,000 to reach 21,500 in 2024.
Each year, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) gives each province a certain number of spots for immigrants to nominate based on what each province needs.
Before, the number of people Ontario could nominate through the OINP rose to 16,500 in 2023, a jump from 9,750 in 2022 and 9,000 in 2021.
The fresh quota for Ontario in 2024 makes up nearly 20% of the total plan for provincial nominees this year.

The rise in the OINP allotment was unexpected, especially considering the decrease in Alberta’s provincial nomination quota for 2024, which caused low confidence.
Since 2021, the OINP has been urging the federal government to increase the province’s PNP quota. Now, their calls have been answered with two consecutive increases in the last 2 years.
By 2025, the province anticipates having over 24,000 OINP spots available each year.
