Australia: Queensland’s Skilled Migration Program Is Now Open

September 16, 2023BY Sheraz

On September 5, 2023, Migration Queensland made an exciting announcement about its skilled migration program for the years 2023-24. This program is all about welcoming skilled workers to the beautiful state of Queensland, Australia.

Queensland Opens Doors for Skilled Workers

This year, Queensland has only 1,550 spots available for skilled workers. That may sound like a lot, but it’s not, considering the huge interest in moving to Queensland. To make things even more competitive, there won’t be any extra spots from the Department of Home Affairs, Australia.

Queensland Opens Doors for Skilled Workers

Migration Queensland has a plan. They will start sending out invitations to apply (ITAs) at the end of September 2023. And they’ll keep doing it every month until the end of the financial year 2023-24. But wait, there’s a catch. They’ll only invite a limited number of people each month to keep things fair.

Are You Eligible?

Before you get all excited, you need to make sure you meet the requirements set by both the Department of Home Affairs and Migration Queensland. If you pass all the checks and want to apply, you must create a brand-new Expression of Interest (EOI) in Skill Select. They won’t look at any updates or changes made to older EOIs.

Available Visa Options for Queensland Skilled Nomination Program 2023-23

If you’re living outside Australia and want to work in Queensland, you have two visa options:

  1. Skilled Nominated (Permanent) visa (subclass 190): This visa lets you live and work in Queensland forever. It’s like making Queensland your new home.
  2. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491 visa): This visa is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Queensland for five years. It’s also a path to becoming a permanent resident.

Who Can Apply?

To get nominated by Queensland, you need to meet the criteria from the Department of Home Affairs and Migration Queensland:

  • You must score at least 65 points in the points test, including the points you get from state nomination.
  • Your skills must pass the test for the job you want to do.
  • You must be less than 45 years old.
  • You must meet the minimum English language requirement, which is “Competent,” unless your job needs a higher level of English.

So, if you’re dreaming of a new life in Queensland, make sure you meet all these requirements, and you could be on your way to a great adventure Down Under.
