Express Entry draw invites 3,350 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence; CRS score increases up to 457

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues regular invitations, known as ITAs, to the highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pool to apply for Canadian permanent residence. The draws typically take place every two weeks.

In the latest draw held on February 20th, the Canadian Government has issued 3,350 invitations to apply for permanent residence to candidates in the Express Entry system.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score in today’s draw was 457, an increase of 19 points from the previous draw on January 30.

The increase of CRS score in the February 20 draw can be largely attributed to the fact that there was a three weeks gap between the current and previous draw. More gap  between draws allows more time for the Express Entry pool to replenish with higher-scoring candidates, which can have the effect of increasing the cut-off score.

Till now, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a total of 14,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in 2019, thus making it the biggest start to a year since the introduction of Express Entry system in 2015.

The 14,500 ITAs demonstrate 70 per cent increase in the number issued at this same juncture in 2018 — a year that saw IRCC set the current Express Entry ITA record of 89,800.

A tie-break rule was applied in the February 20 draw by IRCC. The time stamp used was December 6, 2018, at 12:38:11 UTC. This means that all candidates with a CRS score of 457 or above it, and who entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before the selected date and time, received an ITA in this invitation round.

How you can increases your CRS score?

An Express Entry candidate’s CRS score can be improved substantially if you obtain a nomination through Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program.

An additional 600 points is granted to the Express Entry candidate with a provincial nomination, which effectively guarantees an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence. Provinces including Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Manitoba have been selecting candidates from the pool to apply for a provincial nomination.
