Australian Immigration – New Simplified Student Visa System In Place Now

The Australian immigration student visa has been simplified by reducing the subclasses. The simplified student visa framework (SSVF) has reduced the subclasses from 8 to 2. Now there would be one student visa and one guardian visa.

All international students will have to go through a single risk framework from now on.

The Australian immigration department’s First Assistant Secretary, Immigration and Citizenship Policy Division, David Wilden said that student visa is an important part of Australian international education strategy.

International education sector makes the third largest export industry in Australia. The 2014-2015 exports were recorded to exceed $19 billion.

National Strategy for International Education acknowledged that Australian Immigration department is playing an important role in international mobility.

The government introduced SSVF so that a fair and genuine opportunity can be provided to all the international students as well as the Australian education providers. The new policy is simple and easy to navigate. It will help in improving the productivity and international competitiveness.

The current process is complex and cause inconvenience for prospective international students. The new visa framework is designed so that students can process their applications online for a single subclass. Their applications will also be processed under a single immigration risk framework.

The digital services are already a part of immigration department’s policies. Online student framework for visa application is just an initiative towards the already existing policy.

Subclass 500 will be the only student subclass. It is intended for all the students irrespective of their course of study. Subclass 590 will be the only guardian visa that can be obtained to accompany the international students keeping a parent/guardian relation.

The universal risk management approach will ensure that the risk evaluation target is more focused and is similar for all the international students. The core requirements are going to be the same such as being a Genuine Temporary Entrant, meeting the health and character requirements etc.

The evidentiary requirements can also be met through the online tool designed specifically for international students. The response entered by the students will be then used to evaluate the admission requirements of the prospective students.
